Driving licenses expiring during lockdown valid till June 30 | India News


NEW DELHI: Union road transport minister, Nitin Gadkari said on Tuesday that documents related to the Motor Vehicle Act and the MV Rules such as driving license, registration, vehicle fitness documents and permits will be treated as valid till June 30 where their validity expires between February 1 and June 30.
The minister’s reiteration of the extension of validity was meant to bring clarity among all enforcing agencies as there is major relaxation to allow both commercial and private vehicles during lockdown 3.0.
“Since it is not possible to renew documents during lockdown, various documents related to Motor Vehicle Act 1998 and CMV rules 1989 whose validity expires between February 1, 2020 and June 30, 2020 will be treated as valid till June 30,” Gadkari tweeted.
In an advisory, the ministry on March 31 that such documents will be treated as valid till June-end.
